Why we built it
Screening is the part of hiring that scales worst. A job post brings in more people than anyone can talk to, the shortlist gets made on a CV and a first impression, and the work only starts once someone has been hired.
The alternative most tools offer is a longer funnel: more stages, more calls, more scheduling. That costs the candidate more of their time than it costs the company, and it selects for availability before it selects for skill.
So Assessly does one thing. A candidate gets a link, does a short piece of work close to the real job, and records or writes their answer whenever they can. You read what they produced rather than what they claim.
The decisions behind the product
Each one changes what you or your candidates see. They are why some things are missing on purpose.
The test is the interview, not a gate before it
The questions are the ones you would have asked on a first call, so the answer is worth reading rather than worth scoring out of ten. Nobody is filtered out by a puzzle unrelated to the job.
Asynchronous, because a calendar is not a skill
A candidate answers at eleven at night if that is when they are free. There is nothing to schedule and no timezone to negotiate, which is most of what makes a first round expensive.
The AI reads, it does not decide
Answers arrive transcribed, summarised and scored so you can start from the work instead of from an inbox. Who advances is a person’s call, and the answer is always there to read in full.
The questions are public before you pay
Every ready-made assessment has a page showing sample questions, with no account. The ones that have a recorded correct answer are held back, so reading the page helps nobody pass the test.
A candidate is not the product
Consent is recorded per submission, deletion requests anonymise rather than hide, and nobody’s answers are used to sell anything. The privacy pages say what is kept and for how long.
Try it on your next opening
Pick a ready-made template, read its questions, and send the link to three candidates before deciding anything.
