Assessly vs Willo: an honest comparison

People arriving here want one-way video interviews: send a link, let candidates record when they can, watch later without scheduling anything.

A recorded answer, read back

Describe the largest deal you have closed. How did the opportunity arise, who were the decision makers, what objections came up and what did you do to bring the contract to signature?

What each one costs to start

Assessly

From $29 a month

Or free: 20 answers a month

Priced per account, not per open role, and there is no cap on candidates per role. The free plan sends real assessments.

Willo

From $59 per live role a month

Willo Lite, pay as you go, up to 5 live roles and 150 assessed candidates per role. Enterprise from $3,799 a year. No free plan; a 14-day trial.

Both prices as published by each company on the date the comparison was checked, in the currency they publish. Willo may offer other terms on request; so do we above the Business plan.

Organised by job title, plus a set on competencies like resilience and handling conflict. So you are not writing interview questions at nine at night. Open any of them and read the questions before you use it.

Assessly and Willo, side by side

Both columns are read at the first paid plan of each tool, ours at Starter for $29 a month, theirs at the plan named in the header. Our column comes from the plans the product enforces, so it cannot be tidied by hand. Theirs is read from their public pages on the date below. Where only a dearer plan carries something, the cell names that plan and its price. A question mark means we could not verify it there, not that it is missing.

Where Willo is stronger

  • Candidate experience at volume: works on low bandwidth, localised for 18 or more candidate languages, with 24/7 candidate support.
  • Identity and right-to-work checks built in, on the Enterprise plan.
  • A larger interview and question library, and native integrations with Workday, Greenhouse, Ashby and others on Enterprise.
  • ISO 27001 certification and a long record of one-way video hiring.

Where Assessly is stronger

  • A score with the reasoning written out on every open answer. Willo scores multiple choice and ranks video against a role blueprint; the substantive read of a video answer is still yours to do.
  • Video is one of {types} question types. An interview can carry a written answer, a ranking, a simulation step and a code question in the same flow.
  • Job simulations and a Big Five inventory, which a video-only tool does not offer.
  • No cap on candidates per role and no per-role fee, so a popular opening does not cost more to screen.
  • A free plan, with {freeSubmissions} answers a month, rather than a trial that ends.

So which one?

Pick Willo if

You screen large volumes on one-way video, want identity checks and ATS-native integrations, and your team is happy to watch and judge the answers itself.

Pick Assessly if

You want the answers to come back scored with their reasoning, want to mix video with written and practical questions, and would rather pay per account than per role.

How a video interview runs

  1. 1

    Pick the role

Open the interview written for that job title and read the questions first.

  2. 2

    Send one link

The candidate records from a browser, on a phone if that is what they have, with no install.

  3. 3

    Answers arrive transcribed

Video and audio come back as text you can read and search, in the candidate language.

  4. 4

    Watch only what earns it

Each answer is scored with its reasoning, so you spend the hour on the shortlist rather than on the pile.

Worth asking of any video interview tool

  • Are the questions written for you, or do you write every one?
  • Is the answer transcribed and scored, or do you watch every minute yourself?
  • What happens when a candidate loses their connection halfway through?
  • Can a candidate take it on a phone without installing anything?

Where Assessly stops

  • Video and audio questions need the Starter plan. The free plan covers 15 of the 18 question types, text and choice among them.
  • Interviews are one way: the candidate records and you watch later.

2 real interview questions

Taken from Account Executive, exactly as a candidate reads them.

  1. 1.Long text

Describe the largest deal you have closed. How did the opportunity arise, who were the decision makers, what objections came up and what did you do to bring the contract to signature?

  2. 2.Long text

Tell us about an account that was at risk of churning or not renewing. How did you spot the risk, what did you do to turn it around and what was the outcome?

Questions people ask us

Do I have to write the interview questions?

No. There are 103 video interviews already written, organised by job title and by competency. Open one and read its questions before you use it.

Can a candidate answer on a phone?

Yes, from the browser, with nothing to install. They can stop and come back, because progress is saved as they go.

What happens if the connection drops halfway through?

The attempt is not lost. Progress is saved as the candidate answers, so they resume rather than start again.

Do I still have to watch every answer?

No. Video and audio are transcribed and scored per answer with the reasoning written out, so you review a shortlist instead of building one.

Which plan do video questions need?

Starter. The free plan covers 15 of the 18 question types, text and choice among them, with 20 answers a month.

Can Assessly run a live interview?

Interviews here are asynchronous by design: the candidate records when they can and you watch later, which is the whole reason nothing has to be scheduled. If a live conversation is the point of the tool for you, that is worth weighing before you start.

This is our own site, so read it that way. What we say about the other tool is read from its public pages on the date shown beside the table, with the sources linked, and we name where it beats us before we name where we win. Every number about Assessly is read from the product rather than written by hand. If we got something about them wrong, write to us and we will fix it.

Try it on one opening before you decide

Take a ready-made template, send the link to three candidates and read what comes back. 20 submissions a month cost nothing and need no card.
